Trump Turnberry’s Ailsa Course named Golf World’s Best UK course  
 

TURNBERRY, UK (April 30, 2020)  The iconic Ailsa golf course at Trump Turnberry, A Luxury Collection Resort, has been voted the best in the UK by readers and editorial staff of top golfing publication, Golf World, in its annual Top 100 Courses list. 

The landmark Ayrshire links course topped the prestigious list assembled by a discerning judging panel of editors, golf course architects, Tour professionals and well-travelled readers based on course design, setting, playability, presentation, memorability and consistency. 

Moving up two spaces from last year’s listing, the Ailsa received an average score of 90.6, and Trump Turnberry was commended for its continued investment into the legendary championship course. The publication cited Turnberry as the second best overall golfing resort, surpassing hundreds of other locations to remain one of Golf World’s highest rated and most sought after locations.

According to the judge’s notes, the team at Turnberry and architect Martin Ebert were commended for ‘turning the masterpiece into something indubitably superior’ with various improvements made to course in recent years, against the backdrop of ‘the coastal stretch on the front nine unparalleled for spectacular clifftop ocean views.’

The publication also praised Martin Ebert’s keen attention to detail, applauding the inspiration he took from images of the course's previous architect Philip Mackenzie Ross’s 1949 course, with ‘the goal of restoring many of the Ailsa’s original features and the brief of making it more fun to play’.
